Mutants

In 2013, a pivotal discovery unfolded in New Mexico—a rich deposit of Oganesson was unearthed, marking the inception of what would become a cataclysmic event. Upon the destructive third world war forty-three years later, the ground zero of New Mexico bore witness to an unusual fusion when the radiation from the bombs collided with the unstable Oganesson. This fusion acted as a protective shield for miners and soldiers in the quarry, but the aftermath unfolded as a dark twist over the subsequent year.

The once-protected individuals transformed into mutants, their existence now tethered to Rogan, a newfound energy source that birthed an entire subterranean civilization. Omphalos served as the epicenter of this mutant society, collectively referred to as Junction by humans. Rogan, beyond being an energy source, bestowed telepathic abilities upon the mutants, becoming their primary mode of communication.

The first mutants to emerge and disperse into the wasteland were descendants of the victims from ground zero in New Mexico. These mutants, having bred an abnormal number of offspring in Junction, maintained their telepathic abilities and intelligence. Colossus, a central nexus, held a paramount role in the mutants' hivemind. Its defeat severed the telepathic chain, transforming most mutants into mindless beasts, driven by a singular purpose—bloodlust and vengeance against humankind for their unwitting creation.

Notably, the first mutants who dispersed retained their abilities and intelligence, but their eventual demise loomed as a consequence of being killed. Immortality, in a sense, bestowed upon mutants, as they remained impervious to the aging process. Their communication primarily comprised grunts and some semblance of human words.
